Match Review: Whitehill & Bordon FC 1-2 Liss Athletic
Whitehill & Bordon FC bowed out of the ADFA Intermediate Cup in a closely contested Quarter-Final against local rivals Liss Athletic. Despite taking an early lead through Dylan Bonner and a brilliant penalty save from Joe Choularton, the Stags couldn’t overturn the visitors’ second-half comeback.
First Half
The game started positively for Whitehill & Bordon, with Dylan Bonner putting the home side ahead early on. A well-worked move saw Bonner find space in the box, calmly slotting the ball past the Liss goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
The Stags maintained their lead going into halftime, with solid defending and good organisation keeping Liss Athletic at bay.
Second Half
The second half saw the visitors respond strongly, and they levelled the score with a well-taken goal. Minutes later, Liss were awarded a penalty and converted it to take a 2-1 lead.
Whitehill & Bordon fought hard to equalise and had opportunities to get back into the game. A second penalty for Liss Athletic could have sealed the result, but Joe Choularton produced a stunning save to keep the Stags in contention.
Despite their best efforts, the Stags were unable to find the equaliser, and the match ended 2-1 in favour of Liss Athletic.
Manager’s Comments:
“We’re disappointed with the result, but I’m proud of the effort the lads put in today. We started strongly and showed great resilience, especially with Joe’s penalty save. We’ll take the lessons from this and focus on bouncing back in the league.”
