Match Review: Whitehill & Bordon FC 6-5 Sway FC
Whitehill & Bordon FC held on for a dramatic 6-5 victory against Sway FC in a rollercoaster match at Oakmoor School. Despite racing to a commanding 6-1 lead, a late rally from the visitors tested the Stags’ resolve, but they managed to secure the three points in a game filled with excitement and tension.
First Half
The Stags dominated the opening 45 minutes, showcasing clinical finishing and excellent build-up play. Ritchie Hunter opened the scoring early on, setting the tone for an attacking display. Dean Worman added a spectacular free kick to the tally, while Toby Fuller’s powerful header further extended the lead.
By halftime, the Stags had stormed to a 5-1 lead, leaving Sway FC struggling to keep up with the intensity and precision of Whitehill & Bordon’s play.
Second Half
The Stags picked up where they left off after the break, quickly making it 6-1 and seemingly putting the game beyond doubt. However, with the cushion of a five-goal lead, the intensity dropped, and Sway FC capitalised on the opportunity.
The visitors began to mount a comeback, scoring four unanswered goals to narrow the deficit to just one. Whitehill & Bordon appeared to switch off, allowing Sway to pile on the pressure.
In the closing stages, the Stags dug deep to weather the storm and secure the win. While it was a thrilling end-to-end spectacle, the team will reflect on the need to maintain focus for the full 90 minutes.
Manager’s Comments:
“It was a game of two halves. The first 60 minutes were excellent, but we lost focus in the latter stages and made it much harder than it needed to be. Credit to the lads for digging deep and getting the win, but we need to learn from this moving forward.”
Thank you to everyone who came out to support us in this thrilling encounter. Up the Stags! 🦌
